May 2020 - COVID 19 Scams

COVID-19 Scams. Scammers are taking advantage of fears surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here are some tips from the Federal Trade Commission to avoid Scammers:

  • Don't respond to texts, emails or calls about checks from the government. The details are still coming together.
  • Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits. There are no products proven to treat or prevent COVID-19 at this time.
  • Hang up on robocalls. Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from low-priced health insurance to work-at-home schemes.
  • Watch for emails claiming to be from the CDC or W.H.O. Use sites like and to get the latest information.
  • And don't click on links from sources you don't know.
  • Do your homework when it comes to donations. Never donate in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money

T1Protect thwarts Ransomware

T1Protect thwarts Ransomware - Vigo County, Indiana. In a news release, Commissioner Brendan Kearns, the county's computer system was attacked by a malware (virus) program that has adversely affected daily operations. That attack has resulted in some information stored on internal servers being locked down and not accessible for several days and weeks. Thankfully for the Recorder's office they had CSI's T1Protect. CSI was able to restore the Recorder's systems within 24 hours of notification. Most of us think it will never happen to our county. Please take this important warning seriously. Fortunately, we had Disaster Recovery Protection with CSI. Stacee Todd, Vigo County (IN) Recorder
